A blowjob by any other name would feel as good
First, there’s フェラチオ (romaji: ferachio), taken from the English and Latin “fellatio”. This term can be used as a catchall to describe regular blowjobs. It is often shortened to フェラ (romaji: fera) both in real life and in hentai. With this term, usually the fellator is doing more of the work, actively sucking the fellatee’s dick.
Then there’s イラマチオ (romaji: iramachio). Taken from the Latin “irrumatio”. This term means forced face-fucking, where the fellatee is actively thrusting their cock into the fellator’s mouth, making them gag. In the original Latin, this term was coined to mean “oral rape” in ancient Rome, and this meaning hasn’t changed much as a loan word in Japanese.
Next on our list, 尺八 (romaji: shakuhachi) is also the name of a Japanese flute. The term itself has been used in the context of oral sex as “playing the flute”.
仁王立ち (romaji: nioudachi) is another term that has a slightly different meaning to it. Nioudachi is a term used for “standing and asserting dominance”, and in the realm of hentai, this becomes a way to shift the power dynamics between partners, usually with the fellatee standing, and the person sucking dick on their knees. Here, the top towers over the bottom, who is on their knees, and the power dynamic transfer takes place.

One that many English-speaking hentai fans know in English is 口まんこ (romaji: kuchimanko), or “mouthpussy”. This term has gained entry into the English language via its translation, and it is not uncommon now to find in English fanfiction and art separated away from its immediate use in doujin and hentai. There are many similar uses with まんこ (romaji: manko, pussy) with holes that are not vaginal in nature. “Asspussy” is also widely used term that’s close to this one and it too has separated from Japanese content and found its way into English fan works. For those that want to get literal, the verb しゃぶる (romaji: shaburu, to suck) is a commonly used term when talking about blowjobs. If you want to ask for a blowjob in Japanese, you can say しゃぶって (romaji: shabutte), which translates to “Can you suck on it, please?”.
This next one is more about cum than the actual act. ごっくん (romaji: gokkun) is a term for swallowing cum, and is taken from the onomatopoeia of “swallow”. It’s also a genre (of sorts) and one we see pretty frequently in porn.

When we talk about blowjobs in Japan, we also have to include the legendary head-to-head (or mouth-to-penis) battle between porn star Ryo Sawai and gay bar owner “Cholesterol Takuya”. An episode of Japan’s risque late-night show pitted “the best of the best” against each other.
Ryo Sawai is an established career porn star who has had sex with thousands of women and starred in hundreds of films. He was known for his ability to hold off orgasms, and didn’t even break a sweat when a prostitute, famous for her blowjobs, sucked him off for 40 minutes.

Japanese women and Blowjobs
When surveyed by Voyager Japan in 2018, 91% of Japanese college girls said they loved giving blowjobs, whereas 9% said they hated it. Voyager continued this survey with OLs (office ladies) in Tokyo, and found that these numbers changed significantly, with only 37% of OLs enjoying giving blowjobs and 63% hating it.
Anan, a popular ladies’ magazine, also conducted their own survey. Their first question, “Have men ever asked you to perform blowjobs?”, had a whopping 98% of the women surveyed saying yes. The next question, “What do you think about giving blowjobs?” has the numbers changing considerably at 39% of working women saying “They don’t like it”, and 61% of women “not minding giving blowjobs”.
In a country where the discourse in recent years has been “sexless couples”, it seems like blowjobs, like the sex, becomes less of a thing as one gets older, but Japanese women are just as experimental as their western counterparts when they are younger.
Blowjobs, just like sex, becomes less frequent as you age. If only everyone sucked more dick and improved their gag reflex maybe tragedies like choking on mochi could have been avoided…
